This chapter is my contribution to Theologians of the Baptist Tradition, edited by Timothy George and David S. Dockery (Broadman and Holman, 2001).  Millard J. Erickson has been a mentor for a number of years.  Thus, it was both an honor and a bit humbling to write a chapter on him.  He is an excellent theologian and a model of how to do theology.

This chapter is my contribution to Shaping a Christian Worldview, edited by David S. Dockery and Gregory Alan Thornbury (Broadman and Holman, 2002).  In this chapter I outline what are--on my understanding--the connections between the Christian faith and the intellectual life.  In many ways my forthcoming book, Understanding and the Cross (Crossway, 2010), is an elaboration and explication of the themes of this chapter.
