This is an essay I wrote for The Journal of the Society for Classical Learning (Winter 2009). 

 This is a short article in which I take up the question of the relation between learning and the development of virtue, in which I suggest that the very act of learning is in itelf a virtue-making/cultivating activity (or at least can be!).
